The main place from which this painting is inspired is a small pond in a village called Bourg en Bresse.
There are several reasons why this scene blew me away, as an Israeli that grew up with the harsh atmosphere of the dessert and the scarcity of potable water it was extremly new for me to see the green pastures, the big oak trees, the abundance of potable water, and the fact that people weren't exploiting the area too much, gave the place a calm and peaceful feeling.
It was fairly clean and neat and reminded me of the landscapes in fairy tales.
